I am currently in the throws of trying to decide what to do with my life. Well, at least my work life. You see, I got a job as a maid in March, and while it's a job and better than nuthin, it's not my dream job. When you clean 10 houses a week, you make $14/hr, but due to the economy, I'm still not up to 10 houses a week, and only making $12/hr. On top of that, although most weeks I clean about 6-8 houses, some weeks I clean as few as 3, and that's not much bacon on my paycheck. But, once again, in this economy, I'm glad for what I have and wouldn't be thinking of leaving except for one thing. On my financial aid, I was approved for $2500 per semester for work study, meaning I can get a job on campus. I am having a really hard time deciding if I should do that, so I'm gonna list the pros and cons of both and see what you think.
Maid/pros:
I already have it.
I'm good at it.
It's year round.
It's only during the weekdays, no weekends/evenings.
It pays pretty well, when there's actually work.
Maid/cons:
It wears me plum out.
It's inconsistent.
I have to travel (around the area anyway).
I never know what my schedule will be.
School job/pros:
It'll be on campus, easier to get to.
They'll probably be more understanding when I have papers or tests.
MIGHT be able to get a job where I can study while working.
School job/cons:
Might have hours I don't like.
Might not pay well.
Only during school, no income during breaks.
Looks bad to quit a job so soon after getting it.
Unknown quantities.
Hmph. So, what do you think?

Hmmm...that's also assuming you're able to find a job on campus. Just because you're approved for work study doesnt' mean they have to give you a job if they like someone else better. There were a couple of semesters (read: all but one) when I couldn't find anything at UNT even though I was approved. Then even though you're approved for $2500 workstudy, that doesn't guaruntee you'll find one that pays that much. Maybe you'd find one but it would only pay like $5/hr which probably wouldn't be worth such a drastic pay cut. I found a job on campus making $6.50/hr and lots of people were jealous as that was one of the higher paying jobs. But that was a different school, so maybe stuff is different here. So...I think you should keep your maid job until/unless you find something workstudy related that you know you can get/already offered (which may be okay if it doesn't start until the fall so you have time) that will pay enough to make it worth your time. Or you could in the mean time be looking for something less physcially stressful. Okay that's all. Let us know what you decide!
Still waiting for the trip post.... :) Have you seen Harry Potter yet?
